Yesterday, one of my favorite musicians, that marked my life with their work of art, french duo Daft Punk announced a breakup after 28 years.
This is a tribute text to them.
I can’t help but notice the symbolism at the moment of their farewell
This enigmatic, influential French electronic-music duo, formed in 1993 in Paris by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, marked by a disinterest in fame, always hidden behind their helmets, now, in the age of masks, when technology rise is at its peak, send us a strong message again.
On 22 February 2021, Daft Punk announced their split with an 8-minute video on their YouTube channel entitled “Epilogue,” featuring a scene from their 2006 film Electroma.
‘Epilogue,’ as a way of saying goodbye to their fans, discreetly, through music and illustrative video, ends up with the lyrics from their song “Touch”.
In the time when touch is something undesirable and when human connection is at stake, they say — “if love is the answer, you’re home”.
The remaining bandmate walks into the sunset.
The years 1993 to 2021 show on the screen.
During that period they marked generations of people with their music and released four albums and collected six Grammys.
“In some ways it’s like we’re running on a highway going the opposite direction to everybody else,” Thomas Bangalter revealed to the Time few years ago. “Computers were never designed in the first place to become musical instruments.”
Well, dear Daft Punk, your songs made us feel good. It made us more aware.
